Getting to Know Me

Hello to all my wonderful followers! Here is a bit of information so that all of you can be getting to know me. I reside in a small abode in the small town of Beatrice, Nebraska, U.S.A. I consider myself a Christian, Husband, and Father, in that order.

15827808812_9683cdd61c_mI became a born-again Christian in 1975 while serving in the United States Army at Ft. Hood, Texas. I was saved through reading the gospels one evening after leaving a party intoxicated at the age of 19. By the time I got through John, I came to the LORD Jesus in prayer and He came into my life.

304129030_0cfe945fcc_mI have been husband to by bride Linda since July 14, 1984. For 35 years she has been my steadfast, supporting and loving companion. I am forever thankful to the LORD for her.

She is a true gift from God to me. She has always been willing to follow wherever God has led us. She has given me the best example of a true prayer warrior I have ever known.

2776326500_39d8516c07_mI have the treasure of two adult children, Thomas and Rebecca. They are both close in proximity and more importantly to our hearts.

The experience of fatherhood has been the blessing and trial of my life. I think that parenthood has given me a better perspective on God as the Father, and I am grateful for His gifts and love and help along the path of fatherhood.

My Callings

I first followed a definite calling from God in 1989. I pursued that calling to minister as a pastor first to seminary. I graduated in 1993 with a Master of Divinity degree in Biblical Interpretation and Theology.

I entered the pastorate in the very tiny town of Raritan, Illinois at Raritan Baptist Church. It was a hamlet of just 157 people. After four years there, I was called to First Baptist Church in Beatrice, Nebraska.

After 20 years in the pulpit with two churches in Nebraska, I retired almost two years ago to follow my current calling as a writer.

Along the way, I also became a direct support caregiver for mentally and physically disabled adults. I have worked there for the past 12 years. This is another occupation where I can minister to others even as they do to me.

My Passion

6384460355_a5372d27e6_mWriting is my passion and current calling from God. My desire is to bring the truth of God’s Word to the news and issues of the day. My website where I publish is and the publication is the TIL Journal.

TIL stands for “truth in love.” The words are taken from the New Testament.

Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ… Ephesians 4:15 [ESV]

I model my efforts after the admonition of 20th Century Theologian Karl Barth.

“Take your Bible and take your newspaper, and read both. But interpret newspapers from your Bible.”

These days, “newspapers” publish in multiple forms and the online platform is the fastest growing of them all. I hope to inspire and instruct others in the art and science of interpreting the news from the Bible.

Things to Come

The avenue of writing is not limited to my posts and articles. I am continuing work on a fiction piece which is turning into a novel. The LORD has impressed this work on my heart as well.

I have and will continue to compose other works as the LORD leads in areas such as poetry, devotions and perhaps Biblical quips and studies in the future. I pray for many blessings to all of you from the LORD as He leads us all.

      • I understand! Writing takes a lot of work. I am finally finishing a book that has been in the, making since I was 13 years old. I have been reading a few of your posts and I think you would create a great novel so I am looking forward to that!

      • Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate the encouraging words. You are finishing your book. That is awesome! I would love to know more about your book. My effort has also been in the making from long ago. I got the idea more than 20 years ago while in Seminary. I pray God will bless your writing as well as praying for such blessing on my own. I am writing in what I would call a genre of ‘Futuristic Christian political thriller.’ Kind of a long name, but sums it up pretty well for me anyway;)

      • I appreciate that I pray the exact same vote you! I have actually been searching for those types of books! The ones I’ve read lean more to end times survival but I have been let down by the lack of present realities, creative story telling and spiritual biblical truths. My book has taken me awhile because it’s my own biography. I was born into darkness raised in abuse but received salvation when I was really young. I am writing about how God saved my life essentially raised me through His Holy Spirit and broke my generational curses. I truly had no one He’s the only reason I survived. I am living proof that a God not only exists but He is a great sovereign good God! I had a lot of growing and deliverance to go through in order to create this book in full. Maybe that’s what God was doing with you so that your gifting could mature as you did and you would create through Him in a powerful way!

  1. Dear Mr. Osborn: Your recent article entitled “The National Debt: America’s Ticking Time Bomb” is riddled with numerous lies and misinformation. You have no understanding of the key to all modern economics, namely Monetary Sovereignty. Failure to grasp this key concept renders any discussion of federal government finances, Eurozone finances or state govt finances on your behalf entirely meaningless.

Let me relieve you of your ignorance:

The U.S. government is Monetarily Sovereign over its sovereign currency, the U.S. dollar. The federal government created the very first dollars out of thin air.

It continues to create dollars at will. Even without collecting taxes or receiving any other form of income, the federal government can pay any debt denominated in dollars. It never can run short of dollars. It can CONTROL THE VALUE of the dollar by controlling interest rates.

U.S. cities, counties, and states are monetarily non-sovereign. They have no sovereign currency. Instead, they use the U.S. dollar.

They cannot create dollars at will. They need taxes or other forms of income, in order to pay their debts. They can run short of dollars with which to pay their bills.

England is Monetarily Sovereign over the British pound. Germany is monetarily non-sovereign. It uses the euro, over which it has little control. It can run short of euros and be unable to pay its debts denominated in euros.

Japan and China are Monetarily Sovereign over their currencies. They never can run short. Italy and GREECE are monetarily non-sovereign. They use the euro.

    • I don’t understand why you would put this comment here and not in the article itself. Moreover, it doesn’t serve your argument well when you begin by stating that my article is ‘riddled with lies and misinformation.’ The information I presented is completely documented in the article. Please give me a specific piece of info that is in error. BTW, a lie is an intentional deception, and none exist in the article.
Your argument about monetary sovereignty is somewhat interesting, but it doesn’t hold water. History has told us that economic panic is a real occurrence, as the Great Depression is witness to. The U.S. had monetary sovereignty then as well, and everything they tried failed for many years. In fact, there is much written credibly arguing that all FDR’s government programs did was make the Depression longer! Only the increase in production due to WWII brought us out of that. No amount of modern Keynesian economic theory can change that.

      • The federal deficit was cut in 1937. THE primary reason the Great Depression lingered until as you mention, WWII. No access to comments on the post.

      • Appeal to “authority” is a logical fallacy. There are tons of interpretations of economics and few hold water. I find that people who think as you do and claim Monetary Sovereignty is nonexistant absolutely DO NOT understand economics. The foundation of all economics is Monetary Sovereignty.

      • You also proved my point about increasing deficits prevent recession or depression. The LIMIT to federal deficit spending is an unacceptable level of inflation and the federal govt via the Fed has several tools to prevent too much inflation. Inflation prevention is the prime reason the federal govt accepts savings deposits (federal debt).
